The Electoral Commission has enlisted social networking site Facebook to target users in order to reach unregistered voters ahead of the election on 6 May.

Facebook users will be asked over the weekend whether they have registered to vote. Those which say ‘no’ will then be sent a page linked to the Electoral Commission, allowing them to register their details online.

The Facebook campaign will mainly aim to reach younger people, in a bid to engage with them and bring them to the polling booths.

Those who are unable to register online, will also be able to download a form, which can be posted to the Electoral Commission.

Deadline for registration this year is 20 April, the latest allowed in election history, in order to maximize participation.
