Internet pioneer Rob Wilmot, co-founder of Freeserve, has joined the board of BCS, the company which owns Nottingham-based public relations agency BCS PR and BCS Creative.

Wilmot was the founding chief technology officer of Freeserve, exiting the company in 2001 after seeing it through floatation and the £1.6bn sale to Wanadoo.

He joins BCS to steer the development of BCS Digital, which advises clients on the strategy for social media, search marketing, e-mail campaign management, web presence and mobile.

Wilmot said: “The agency is becoming the ‘go to’ place when companies want to integrate marketing and PR campaigns as it leads the field when it comes to seeing the potential of using online media tools."

Alan Boyden, who together with Murray Carmichael-Smith founded BCS PR and BCS Creative, commented: “This is a real coup for the agency and we are excited at the thought of someone with Rob’s calibre joining the team and helping the agency to drive for further growth in the world of digital marketing.”

Wilmot has invested in many ventures and now sits on a number corporate and public sector boards, and he is chairman of Doncaster College. He is also Visiting Fellow at the University of Bradford in the school of Informatics, as well as a practising artist.
