Manchester Twitter users are gearing up to take part in the second global Twestival, an international event that uses social media to raise money for charity.

Twestivals will take place all over the world on Thursday 25 March and the Manchester event will feature music and a charity auction. It will give Twitter users more used to communicating in 140 characters online the chance to meet up in person.

Last year's Twestival in Manchester, one of 202 cities taking part, was hailed a success. It sold out in under five hours and raised over £4000 for Charity Water to pay for wells in Uganda, Ethiopia and India.

Proceeds from this year’s event will go to Concern Worldwide, a global charity dedicated to helping people living in extreme poverty.

Katie Moffat, organiser of the Manchester Twestival, says: “Following the success of last year’s Manchester Twestival, we’re planning to make the event even more engaging and interactive, showcasing the city as the creative digital hub that it is.

“The Manchester Twestival is a fantastic opportunity to be part of an international event which also provides a unique business platform to network and meet up with like-minded social media users and local Twitterati.”
