Spanish wine company Freixenet has worked with Holmes & Marchant on the design of its new Vintage Reserva cava.

The work comes as Freixenet prepares to roll out the product through off-trade outlets across Europe and the UK this year.

It is described as a wine designed for "more special occasions" and this has been reflected in the design. “We wanted our newest variety to look cosmopolitan, modern and stylish but also to reflect our skills as established winemakers with a heritage stretching back 70 years,” said James Dress, international group product manager at Freixenet.

“Vintage Reserva is a special wine and Holmes & Marchant have created an incredibly detailed and thoughtful design for its launch around the world," Dress added.

Nick Hanson, creative director at Buckinghamshire-based Holmes & Marchant, said Vintage Reserva's design will not look out of place alongside Freixenet's other wines, including the Elyssia and Cordon Negro in its striking black opaque bottle.

“We aimed to create an image that is immediately identifiable as Freixenet, using softer, muted-gold colours and rich materials to differentiate Vintage Reserva from Cordon Negro and Elyssia," Hanson said.

"The new variant shows how Vintage Reserva fits into the Freixenet family by bridging the visual gap between its two sister wines," he added.
