Volume Group appoints Rutherford as non-exec chairman

Alan Rutherford, former CEO of Digitas Global and ex-head of media at Unilever plc has taken on the role of non-executive chairman of Volume Group.

He joins the Rutherford will work one day a week with Volume Group in his new role which will see him tasked with aiding the agency’s business development using his background in digital.

The Berkshire-based agency looks to combine a variety of strategic, creative and technology-development communication disciplines for B2B brands including Dell, Oracle and Vets Now. Through strategic consulting and planning the agencies works across B2B sectors, including technology, hardware and industrial verticals.

Rutherford explained his decision to take on the role: “Digital is fundamentally changing the approach to brand communication both in the B2B and B2C world. It’s impacting consumer behaviour, how consumers perceive brands, how they use media and how they purchase brands.

“Understanding the role that digital plays, how to execute digital solutions, plus real-time tracking, intelligent reporting and digital interaction are key. Volume is world-class in this area and the team has great ambitions to further build leading-edge capabilities.”

Chris Sykes, CEO of Volume Groups added; “With Alan’s experience as VP of Global Media for CPG giant Unilever, we are sure he can help us scope out leadership within the organisation to handle some of the increasing CPG client enquiries. With 21% growth this financial year and plans to expand our headcount by 30% in the coming financial year, Alan will be instrumental in helping us to take our inherent capability to measure, measure and measure some more; mould it and deliver it to B2C scenarios.”
