A new pilot scheme offering free school dinners to primary school pupils will be promoted by Beattie Communications' Manchester office.

The agency was appointed by catering company Taylor Shaw, supplier to the Government-backed scheme, following a three-way pitch.

Beattie's education and health division is now working to drive take-up of the free meals offer, which is being tested in Durham as part of a two-year trial, and will campaign for the project to be rolled out nationwide.

As part of the campaign, Beattie will work with former world champion athlete and BBC correspondent Steve Cram to promote the benefits of healthy eating and regular exercise.

Victoria Walker, director of Beattie Communications North, said: “This is a fantastic project which promises to make real differences to the health and education of thousands of children across the Durham area.

“Like so many of our education and health clients at the moment, effective communications will play a crucial role in ensuring this project is a success and, we hope, one which can be rolled out nationwide.“
