Superfly the outdoor exhibition, which takes advantage of Dundee’s legal fly posting system for the city’s creative community, is currently under way, showcasing designs by artists from the city.

SuperFly is, first and foremost, an exhibition for local designers, illustrators and artists in the city of Dundee to show off their talent. But it’s an exhibition without entrance fees, closing times or hi-brow pretensions. The public can search out these pieces of art, but they are just as likely to stumble across them on their walk to work.

The exhibition (first covered by The Drum in July) – the brainchild of Jon Gill, a graphic designer for Dundee City Council, who set up SuperFly in his spare time, inspired by the prospect of Dundee’s first Digital Arts Festival, North East of North – utilises Dundee’s legal fly posting system.

Street Advertising, who manage the city’s fly poster sites, offered space for the exhibition, with other suppliers and advertisers covering the cost of the event through sponsorship.

SuperFly’s aim is to promote local creative businesses and artists, says Gill: “Our flyers, exhibition guide and window posters have all being produced locally and the intention is that this will continue and grow.

“SuperFly is by Dundonians for Dundonians, home grown and adopted. We believe that ‘SuperFly ‘09’ is just the tip of a potentially huge iceburg.”

Gill says that the response from the local creative community has been outstanding

The selected SuperFly exhibition posters are currently on display throughout the city and an exhibition programme, ‘the Superfly Guide’, is available from local creative outlets...

The Superfly Guy’d programme gives more information on the artists and their work, as well as a rough guide to where to find the posters in the City.

An indoor exhibition of all the work will run at the NEoN festival where photos of the show will be on display alongside a few of the full size posters.

The NEoN Digital Arts Festival will run from 13-15 November across the city of Dundee and aims to bring together some of the biggest names digital arts to host a series of seminars, workshops, exhibitions and exclusive games showing for the general public to attend.

The cartoonist behind many of Disney Pixar's biggest box office successes, Bud Luckey, will be speaking at the festival, supported by The Drum, alongside Dave Jones, co-founder of games giant Rockstar North.
