Yorkshire magazine firm Words&Pictures has moved into the world of books with a 200-page homage to the region’s fine foodstuff.

The editorial design company, known for its corporate communications work with the likes of Asda, Honda, T-Mobile and Procter&Gamble, has made the leap into literary circles with a lavish guide to the region’s best food and where to find it.

Yorkshire’s Own Kitchen offers the region's top restaurants, cafés and shops selling food reared, grown and cooked throughout the area.

From the best curd tarts and curries, to the finest fish and hand-made crisps, the book is aimed at both visitors and locals keen to find the best on their doorstep.

Otley-based Words&Pictures’ creative director Andy Holt said the aim had been to create a quality AA-type guide to the culinary delights of Yorkshire and Humberside.

He added: “We have a strong background in producing magazines relating to food and drink in the region and have worked with the Regional Food Group and Yorkshire Forward on the taste publication for a number of years.

“Our photography and innovative design seems to have translated well into the book format. Now we’ve done our first food book we’re hungry for more.”

Yorkshire’s Own Kitchen also features recipes from local food buffs and celebrity chefs, together with the best places to stay and visit.

The Regional Food Group’s Jane Chamberlain said: “We’re delighted with the look and feel of the book which is designed to encourage both visitors and people living in Yorkshire and Humber to eat more of some of the fantastic food and drink produced all around us - both in the home and when they are eating out. You really can’t eat better than local and seasonal produce.”

The paperback was produced together with the Kindred agency based in Leeds.
