Manchester design agency, Cuckoo Design has unveiled a new logo for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Salford.

In May 2009, Cuckoo was tasked with creating a new modern logo for the Diocese to coincide with the opening of its new Cathedral Centre on Ford Street in Salford.

The Centre will provide a new home for all administrative and educational services that the Diocese offer and is a new space for conferences and training events.

The logo will be used across a new stationary set to compliment the opening of the centre as well as appearing on signage and future published materials.

Previous to the work with Cuckoo, the Diocese did not have a formal logo. The new look provides consistency across the whole of the Diocese as well as offering a contemporary new look that aims to capture the values and heritage of the communities that are spread across Greater Manchester and parts of Lancashire.

The Tudor rose is at the heart of the logo, which is framed by a shield. The mosaic of bees symbolises Manchester and Salford’s history as a centre of industry during the 19th Century.

Justine Wright, managing director of Cuckoo Design, commented: “We’ve been based on Chapel Street and have been part of the Salford community for over 18 years now. When we rebranded our own image from Walsh Simmons to Cuckoo Design, it was an opportunity for our neighbours to see our creative work first hand. Our striking look is more personable and we’re very flattered that we were approached by the Diocese. We’re really glad the Diocese felt comfortable to cross the road and pop in!”

“We thought it was imperative to preserve the Diocese’s heritage and yet important to create a clean and fresh logo."
