Sheffield-based Warp Films has appointed former Film 4 senior commissioner Peter Carlton to establish the company’s European arm, which will be based in the city's Electric Works.

Warp’s head of finance, Niall Shamma, says: “We have ambitious plans and having the flexible space at Electric Works means we can more easily bring in freelancers and collaborative teams to work alongside us. We have to compete with international film makers and when dealing with TV companies and European producers image is important.”

Warp has enjoyed success with films such as This Is England and Dead Man’s Shoes and has started producing music videos for bands such as Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian and Depeche Mode. From its new home at Electric Works, Warp will produce its planned TV series follow up to This Is England.

MD Mark Herbert says: “Warp has had several homes in the past, including my garden shed, and the move to Electric Works reflects the next phase of our development, where we’re working on a wider range of projects in broader markets.”
