Edinburgh-based multimedia Firm Channel 6 has launched the online box office for this year’s Edinburgh Fringe, selling 35,350 in one day alone.

That project saw Channel 6 integrate a new box office system - developed by Red 61 - and the Fringe Database with the Fringe website so customers will be able check show times, book seats and buy tickets online.

The team was also tasked with avoiding the well publicised problems that has hit the site previously with it not being able to cope with demand, and as a result the company has now hired the freelancer it worked with on the project, Colin Pickup.

Pickup, a graduate in artificial intelligence and software engineering from Edinburgh University began his career in the future media department of the BBC.

His permanent appointment brings staff numbers at Channel 6 to six.
