Irish telecoms company, eircom, has teamed up with Glasgow-based social media agency Yomego to launch GaelicRising.ie, a new community website for fans of Gaelic football and hurling.

The launch follows the success of SoccerRepublic.ie, a dedicated site launched in February to provide soccer fans with everything they need to know about Irish soccer.

Soccer Republic received almost 100,000 unique visits in its first fortnight, and with the Irish team vying with Italy at the top of their World Cup qualifying group, traffic on the site peaks around each qualifying and friendly match, while covering updates from the League of Ireland in the interim.

GaelicRising.ie is built on the social networking platform supplied by Yomego’s sister company, Huzu, enabling fans to meet, chat, upload and swap content and join forums. The site’s homepage features news feeds, exclusive video content and match highlights, links to a Fantasy Manager competition as well as fixtures, results and a section that showcases the best of the content from the ‘Fanzone’. Yomego has worked with eircom and its content partners to design and deliver a customised version.

Commenting on the new website Gerry Culligan, director of consumer market, eircom said: “GaelicRising.ie is a definitive one stop shop for fans of Gaelic games. Keeping up to speed with all the latest championship news is vital to dedicated hurling and football fans in Ireland and now with GaelicRising.ie, fans will have all the news, reviews, opinions and video content they need at their fingertips, while our Fantasy Manager league will enable them to test their own skills in a highly entertaining online mini-league competition.”

Steve Richards, managing director of Yomego and Huzu, added: “This is another clear signpost towards the future of social networking for brands. A community will only accept branded social media if it’s on their terms. Soccer Republic provided fans with engaging content and user–friendly functionality. GaelicRising.ie will build on that success and enable a new, fervent and thriving community to come together around a shared interest.”
