Award winning producer Paul Appleby has been appointed as this year's chairman of Bristol Media.

He will head up the organisation's board which comprises creative and media entrepreneurs from across the city's TV, film, digital, design and marketing sectors.

Together they co-ordinate Bristol Media's projects and events, which aim to promote Bristol's creative industries and the expertise, services and skills that the city has to offer.

Appleby has over 30 years' experience working in TV. He produced Bafta-winning programme The Really Wild Show and launched multiplatform project Saving Planet Earth.

"We live in a city that's brimming with knowledge and imagination, and connecting that brainpower is what Bristol Media really aims to do,” he said. “We need to hothouse new ideas, work together to retain and develop talent, help our member companies grow and communicate and promote our activities as widely as possible.

“I believe that the real focus and drive we’ve had as a network over the last two years has helped us come together as a connected, industry and community focussed organisation that can deliver.”

Supported by the South West Regional Development Agency and Bristol City Council, the wider mission for the four-year old organisation includes supporting and growing an “exciting and competitive creative community” to provide more opportunities for its 3500-strong membership.

Mike Bennett, managing director of Bristol Media, said: “Paul is a hugely experienced and talented producer who’s been involved in the organisation since it started.

"He brings real depth of knowledge to the organisation and it’s great to now have him on board as chair.”
