STV has said that it is considering its next moves following the news the sports broadcaster Setanta has been placed in the hands of liquidators.

The Scottish broadcaster worked with Setanta on delivering live Champions League coverage last season, a deal which it is thought was also agreed to run over this year’s tournament.

The broadcaster has also been renting space in the building of STV for several years but is thought to have been making redundancies over recent weeks.

A spokesperson for STV, commented: “We are disappointed that Setanta has been unable to resolve this situation. Sport is important to STV and we are considering our options regarding our future involvement in the football coverage market.”

Yesterday it was announced that Setanta, which has recently lost its broadcasting rights to the Premier League and Scottish Premier League having failed to pay the latest instalments of its contracts, would lose around 200 jobs as liquidator Deloitte was charged with winding the company down.
