Groundwork, the environmental regeneration charity, has appointed Reading Room to develop its national and regional web presence.

The charity works to regenerate communities across the UK and has about 40 regional members each with individual websites. It has tasked Reading Room to give it a more consistent voice online.

Jon Kedwards, responsible for PR and Public Affairs at Groundwork, said: “Because we are a network of organisations rather than a single organisation our web presence has tended to grow organically, from the bottom up, over the last 10 years. It's left us with a situation where we have a whole multitude of different websites; a whole range of different designs, looks and certainly quality standards.

“The task that we really need to tackle is to bring all of that content together in a new, coherent, consistent and inspiring manner. That's the task we've set Reading Room with.

“The second point is at the moment you don't get any sense of the exciting work that Groundwork does from our online presence at all. We need to present some of the creative work that we do on the ground in communities in a different format because we've been failing to do that.”

Among its feature the new site is likely to feature blogs, which will act as project diaries to keep residents up to date with work being done in their neighbourhoods. It is scheduled to launch in August and Reading Room will continue as the organisation's web partner once it has gone live.
