Hemisphere has created a campaign to promote the Imperial War Museum North's current exhibition, Witness: Women War Artists.

Manchester-based Hemisphere, which also designed the exhibition itself, has produced a through-the-line campaign that includes invitations, direct marketing leaflets, posters and banners.

Featuring a close-up image of a young woman covered in war paint, each of the campaign's pieces works to convey the exhibition's key elements - women, art and war.

Six-sheet and A1-size posters will be positioned across Manchester in key commuter areas, and the leaflets are also being distributed around the city at tourist information points and arts houses.

The campaign also includes press ads, again designed by Hemisphere, which will appear in national broadsheet supplements, regional media and art publications.

Running until 19 April, the Salford Quays-based museum's exhibition brings together the works and personal reflections of key female war artists, from the first world war to the Kosovo conflict.

Hemisphere's creative director, Grant Windridge, said: "In many war situations women have actually been embedded with troops on the frontline and the grittiness of the image featured across all elements of the marketing campaign epitomises this.

"Bringing home the harsh reality of witnessing warfare up close was a key objective of our design for the exhibition and we have created an environment evocative of the world that the artists were working in, helping to reinforce the museum's brand statement that war shapes lives.”
