Warwick Castle, the Medieval-themed visitor attraction, has appointed WPR to handle all of its national and regional consumer PR activity.

Birmingham-based WPR was handed the account on the back of its campaign to promote the Castle's Christmas events programme last year. The consultancy dislodges London-based incumbent Freerange Communications, which has held the account for five years.

Georgina Kelly, head of sales and marketing for Warwick Castle, said 2009 would be a "huge year" for the tourist attraction. "At Easter we are launching what will be our biggest and most ambitious new attraction to date, the Castle Dungeons, and PR will form a critical element of our awareness strategy," she said.

The appointment of a PR agency follows the recent announcement that Liverpool-based Finch had been appointed by the attraction to handle a range of above the line work including a new TV ad.
