A new PR consultancy is set to launch, funded by Bigmouthmedia founders, Steve Leach and Heather Luscombe.

Revolver PR will be headed by technology writer Iain Bruce, with Leach acting as executive director, providing strategic guidance and commercial development direction, while Luscombe will take on a board-level advisory role.

Bruce will take on the role of editorial director, directing account activity and company operations.

Speaking of the launch, Leach said: “Three times more content is now read online than is read offline, yet despite the rapidly increasing importance of online news the PR sector is still struggling to get its head round the internet.

"There’s an obvious need for an agency that can address some of the industry’s key problems while delivering campaigns that work across the print, broadcast and digital media.

“Most of my focus has been on new concepts and businesses that have relied heavily on PR to break into the market, and that frontline experience has thrown up the same issues time and time again. The trouble with traditional campaigns is that they’re too expensive, that its rarely clear how effective they are and that it’s extremely difficult to work out what you’re actually getting for your money. That’s something we’re going to try and put right."

With a base in Edinburgh and office space in Glasgow, Revolver PR will launch with seven staff initially, including Davey Winder, Nick Clayton, Iain Bruce and one other, as yet unnamed, editorial consultant.

Bruce has carved out a reputation as one of the UK's most accomplished technology writers over the last 20 years. Winner of a raft of major industry awards, his work has appeared in most of the UK's major publications including The Guardian, Sunday Times, Independent, and Telegraph.

Winder has spent the best part of two decades writing for major titles across the consumer and trade press. Recently named the 2008 Information Security Journalist of the Year, he has been contributing editor at the biggest selling IT magazine in the UK, PC Pro for the past 14 years.

Nick Clayton has worked on the business desks of The Sunday Times and Scotsman, where he set up and ran the interactive supplement. As founder of web content specialists penpusher.com he has worked alongside a host of blue-chip clients including BT, Securicor and 3 mobile.

Leach continued: “Getting the right blend of people was always going to be crucial. I needed to complement my understanding of the online media with hard won experience of what makes the national press tick and, together with his multi award winning status as a pioneer of technology reporting, Iain’s many years at the typeface made him the natural choice.

"It has long been a challenge for growing companies to obtain a first rate PR service at a reasonable cost. It’s even harder to find one with that combines frontline press experience with leading-edge understanding of the value of digital press & content distribution.
