Following its omission from the Scottish Government’s marketing roster, PR agency Smarts has said that it is currently considering how to move forward.

Lesley Alexander, managing director of Smarts, told The Drum: “We are surprised and disappointed, but proud of the work that we’ve done on behalf of the Scottish Government over the past four years. We were a successful agency pre-roster and, while it’s a short term blow, we will continue to be successful.”

Asked whether the news could mean that redundancies would be made at the agency as a result she said: “We will need to cut our cloth accordingly and are looking at how we do that at present.”

The Scottish Government was one of the agency’s main clients along with soft drink Vimto, Scottish and Newcastle UK, Yell and Bell Lawrie.

New agencies to make the PR roster alongside retained agencies The Big Parnership, Barkers and Progressive were Stripe, Weber Shandwick and Golley Slater North.
