The Community Foundation for Greater Manchester has appointed Fido PR to create a brand identity and communications strategy for a new government-awarded £4m fundraising campaign.

The government promises to match fund every pound raised through its Grass Roots Grants scheme in order to build a multi-million pound endowment that will support small community groups in Greater Manchester, now and in the future.

“Fido’s job is to seek out those who have an affinity with Manchester and inspire them to become the next generation of philanthropists,” said co-founder of Fido Nancy Collantine.

She added: “The campaign is already underway and includes establishing partnership marketing projects with much loved Manchester brands, people and well known businesses with the public facing launch planned for early 2009.”

Fido's response to the brief is 'Forever Manchester' – described as 'a movement that hopes to capture the spirt of the city through music, art, film, comedy and fashion'.

Frank Design has been commissioned to create the Forever Manchester web site. Working alongside Fido its aim is to engage donators in the region and promote fundraising events.

Partners on board include Harvey Nichols, Urbis, Kro, Manchester Radio Online, Duerrs, Irwell Valley, Manchester Food and Drink Festival, The Printworks and The Market Restaurant.

Musicians have backed the campaign with Salford band The Ting Tings signed up as ambassadors along with Hacienda DJ Dave Haslam.

Haslam said: “Forever Manchester is about celebrating the region while securing its future for generations to come. I’m all for the campaign and hope to help Forever Manchester reach its target through a series of events in 2009.”
