Bell Lawrie, the financial planning and investment management specialist, has appointed integrated communications company Fifth Ring to deliver strategic public relations to its Aberdeen office.

Bell Lawrie is the latest addition to Fifth Ring’s client portfolio, which specialises in financial and professional, energy, property, education and leisure sectors.

Fifth Ring has grown significantly, with a 43% increase in staff, to over 80 employees this year. This increase comes in a year that has seen the agency launch its Houston office and the acquisition of Ken Sturgeon Marketing.

Meanwhile, Fifth Ring's non-executive chairman, Patrick Machray, has received an OBE, for his services to the economy and charity in the north-east of Scotland.

Machray, 54, received the OBE in recognition of his work developing the economy through Scottish Enterprise Grampian and his work with Aberdeen City & Shire helping to integrate the business community with the economic future of the city.

Patrick joined the Fifth Ring executive communications board in May 2007, after stepping down as chief executive director of Johnston Carmichael, Scotland’s largest independent accountancy firm. In June 2007 he was appointed as local chairman of Clydesdale Bank’s financial solutions centres in Aberdeen and Thainstone at Inverurie. He is also executive director of Kirkwood Homes.

Commenting on the honours ceremony in London, he said: “It was an incredible experience and meeting the Queen made it all the more special. I feel extremely honoured to receive this accolade and I am delighted that my work has been recognised.”
