Weber Shandwick has said that it has resigned from the Hearts FC chairman Vladimir Romanov's PR account following Romanov stating that he did not wish to communicate with the media any longer.

Vladimir Romanov, owner and chairman of Hearts FC has had a stormy relationship with the media since becoming majority shareholder of the Edinburgh club in 2005.

According to reports in the press over the weekend, it was the Romanov's decision to remove the director Weber Shandwick, Charlie Mann who has acted as spokesperson for Romanov and the club over the last four years. Mann confirmed that the account was worth more than £60,000 a year to the company.

Mann told The Drum that he decided to resign the account as he felt there was no need to continue with Romanov if he was not intending on continuing to speak to Scotland's press and that the move was entirely of his own making. Mann also said that he has also been asked to work with Romanov again in the future on an infrequent basis.

The club's PR account will continue to be handled by the internal communications team at Hearts alongside any communications needs that Romanov may have.
