The Aberdeen Independent is actively looking to be bought out as it aims to avoid making its entire staff redundant.

The 12 year old free weekly newspaper could be forced to make all 30 members of staff redundant, including its four journalists, before the end of this month if it does not find a buyer.

It is understood that the paper currently carries debts of around £200,000 but that its assets make up to nearly £300,000.

Eric Farquharson, managing director of the newspaper has promised that should the newspaper not be purchased, all staff will be paid their dues.
