Manchester is to host an international art project aimed at showcasing the work of local creatives.

For six months Diesel Wall will dominate the glass facade of the city's Urbis building, showcasing the work of local creative talent. Manchester is the UK's only venue for Diesel Wall, and joins Barcelona, New York and Zurich in hosting the project.

A competition is now open to anyone, from design professionals to budding novices, to submit painting, photography, video, performance, light, sound, text and experimental concepts including 3D for consideration to go on the wall. These entries will then be whittled down by an illustrious judging panel which includes Manchester born graphic design guru Peter Saville.

Winners will be announced through the Diesel Wall website and the selected work will go on display from June. Until then, the wall will be emblazoned with the message, 'I could be yours'.

Pollyanna Clayton Stamm, head of creative programmes at Urbis, urged local creatives to take part. She said: "Manchester has a huge wealth of creative potential, some still as yet untapped, and the Diesel Wall project will give Manchester’s artists the chance for their talents to be rewarded with international recognition."

Organisers say works can range from being "provocative to poetical, ornamental, as well as wild and spacious". Closing date for entries is 18 May. For technical details and to enter, go to www.dieselwall.com.
