SMC Action Group has announced the next step of its lobbying campaign, by launching an industry-wide petition

Mark Gorman, head of the group, said: “In Parliament we made it clear how important our industry is to Scotland but also showed that we have to compete with strong competition from London and internationally. Given that, we welcome the recognition by the First Minister’s Council of Economic Advisors that the creative industries offer high growth potential. We are now calling on all MSP’s to sign Elaine Murray’s motion, plus we are launching an industry petition, and talking to as many influencers as we can.”

Gorman continued: “We have a lot of support for our aims which include asking the Government to support our sector, as it already does the financial and film industries. With many of our businesses being SME’s, the effort that legislators can bring is vital in both retaining talent and jobs in Scotland.”

At time of writing, MSP’s signed up to the motion were Jamie Hepburn, Hugh Henry, George Foulkes, Karen Whitefield, John Park, Trish Godman, Kenneth Gibson, Jackie Baillie, Jim Hume, Sarah Boyack, Marilyn Livingstone, David Whitton, Robin Harper and Mary Mulligan.
