Arthur Porter’s regional business newspaper, Crain’s Manchester Business, was launched over the festive season to a mixed reaction.

Crain’s, which will challenge the established Manchester Evening News, contains a blend of business, financial and commercial news, distributed by targeted mailshot to regional business owners and stakeholders in the area.

The full colour glossy carried virtually no advertising in its inaugural two issues, but is intended to be funded initially by sponsorship, thereafter moving towards paid subscription. The paper presently carries full page in-house advertising in anticipation of external sponsorship. Editorial content is supplemented by regional planning information and collated public notices.

Despite an aggressive launch strategy, copies have been hard to come by, with some business owners reporting difficulties obtaining the initial two issues.

The new paper is reviewed on page 12
