Manchester held off competition from the likes of Blackpool and London to become the location of the UK\'s first Las Vegas style \'super\' casino.

The licence grants permission for a venue to be built, which can hold up to 1,250, unlimited jackpot gaming machines.

Both London and Blackpool were favourites to win the bid, while cities such as Glasgow and Cardiff also lost out.

Licences for large casinos were also granted to Great Yarmouth, Hull, Leeds, Middlesbrough, Milton Keynes, Newham, Solihull and Southampton.
