Adrian Searle, director of Freight Design, is set to leave the consultancy later this month to become communications director of the new National Theatre of Scotland.

Searle is one half of the team that set up Freight, the design arm of The Bridge, four years ago. Freight will continue to be headed by fellow director Davinder Samrai following Searle’s departure.

Searle said: “My remit will be managing the communications, which involves all PR and marketing, for the most exciting arts project in Scotland in the last ten or 15 years.

“I’m obviously really sad to be leaving Freight. Davinder and I have worked extremely hard to build what is now a very strong business, but this opportunity was a fantastic one and far too good to turn down.”

Searle takes up his new position on 20 June, ahead of the National Theatre’s opening in 2006.

“We’d like to thank Adrian for the effort he has put into building Freight into a serious player in the design market. He and Davinder have achieved a great deal in a relatively short space of time,” said Brian Crook, managing director at The Bridge. “Adrian has always nurtured an interest in the arts, and we wish him well in his client-side job. His departure certainly doesn’t affect our belief in Freight.”
