Model Village by WeTransfer

WePresent, WeTransfer’s editorial platform collaborated with world-renowned filmmakers Michel Gondry and Olivier Gondry to produce an animated music video for Idles’ new single, Model Village.
The video visualizes Idles’ lead singer Joe Talbot's lyrics by creating a model village: an intricate, technicolour, paper cut-out town inhabited by cartoon families resembling pigs. Joe’s witty, socio-political lyrics are adopted and transformed into something resembling a children’s TV show with unsettling undertones.
The project was created during lockdown, and from his home in Los Angeles, Michel cut out hand-drawn characters and shapes, arranged them on his desk, and filmed them on his iPhone. He then sent everything to Olivier in Paris, where he took the collages and brought them to life through CGI.
