It was something more befitting the Jerry Springer Show than ITV’s Daybreak.

This was the scene early on Tuesday morning when former spin doctor Damian McBride’s publisher took on an anti-nuclear protester while McBride was being interviewed on ITV’s Daybreak.

McBride’s interview carried on while Dale, the protester and his dog grappled each other to the ground on Brighton’s seafront.

In a blog post written shortly after, Dale claimed he did what “any self-respecting publisher would do” and took matters into his own hands when he saw the protester going about his business in a public space.

“He started resisting and we ended up in an unseemly tumble on the ground,” he explained. “I was conscious of the photographers and other cameramen who were present filming the whole thing, but I was determined this idiot shouldn’t disrupt what was an important interview for my author.”

Oh dear.
