PayPal found itself out of pocket by $92 quadrillion after it massively credited a US PR executive’s account by mistake.

Chris Reynolds discovered in his June PayPal statement that his account was worth $92,233,720,368,547,800 (£60,630,193,209,553,728).

To put it in perspective, Reynolds would be over a million times richer than Carlos Slim who is the world’s richest man with a $72bn fortune.

Unfortunately, upon logging into his account online his balance sat at exactly $0.

Imagining PayPal hadn’t noticed, Reynolds said he "probably would have paid down the national debt" and then bought the Philadelphia Phillies baseball team.

PayPal said: "This is obviously an error and we appreciate that Mr Reynolds understood this was the case," adding that it would donate an unspecified sum to a charity of Reynolds’ choice.
