Spanish dog owners in the small town of Brunete, 20 miles west of Madrid, have been recipients of some unwelcome packages in the post courtesy of an unconventional campaign devised by McCann.

A crackdown on dog mess in the town has seen the local council deploy teams of volunteers to observe dog walkers and the resulting mess many leave behind. Undercover they then nonchalantly engaged the guilty owner in conversation, securing the name and breed of their dog to cross reference against a central pet database.

Armed with this intel the unpleasant deposit was then packaged in a council branded box marked ‘Lost Property’ and delivered by courier to the owners home.

Officials report that a total of 147 such ‘express poop’ deliveries were made over the course of just one week in February, contributing to a reported 70 per cent fall in dog mess on the streets.
