We are pleased to announce that our world-first Airline crew menu and delivery service created in collaboration with En Route International has scooped one of the first Digital Vision Awards (DiVAs) in the Digital Achievement and Innovation category

The first ever DiVAs were set up by The Caterer to recognise online excellence in the hospitality sector. We designed and developed the En Route Crew Nosh app for airline crew, enabling them to choose and order a fresh, nutritious in-flight meal delivered directly to the aircraft. The complex eco-system of fully linked mobile and web apps integrate with airline and catering supplier data sources and was designed to reduce the crew’s dependency on airport terminal fast food outlets. It also allows airlines to supply their agreed food allowance to crew with ease.

The app securely links with the airline’s roster system so that crew members can see their schedule and select their meals accordingly. Changes can be made up to 24 hours prior to flight departure and there is an extra safe guard in place as meals are suitably different so that no two crew members on the same flight have the possibility of falling ill.

Andrew Ayling, our Head of Technology said: “The apps are designed to be used by any member of airline crew without needing training or support. Flights are selected and meals ordered through a few simple touch-and-swipe gestures familiar to any smartphone user. We are thrilled that En Route saw the potential in this as it provides a solution to a genuine but little known challenge that airlines face.”

Crew can also rate the food which En Route uses for further menu development. The app is designed to be mult-lingual and caters for all food preferences including Halal, vegan and Gluten-free.

Alison Lessmann, Managing Director of En Route said: “We are over the moon to have won this particular award for digital innovation. We have successfully tested a working version of the app with a plan to launch it in 2017. It is highly likely that it will also be extended to airline passengers too.”

The judges of The DiVAs commended the ability of the technology to integrate with a number of back-end systems along the customer journey as the standout reason that En Route won the award with Brandwidth.
