Alexandre Abrantes, who until February was FCB New York’s group creative director and who has since been named its executive creative director, has topped the World Creative Rankings as the most-awarded CD of the last year, rising up the standings from a 21st-place finish in 2023.

He is joined at the top of the table by FCBers past and present, with Simon Dolsten (now at Johannes Leonardo) and Thomas Mori sharing second place.

The trio’s podium places were largely secured by their being credited on two highly decorated campaigns for AB InBev-owned Michelob Ultra. (AB InBev has also been crowned the world’s top advertiser in the World Creative Rankings.)

McEnroe v McEnroe,’ which picked up a slew of accolades at awards shows around the world after pitting the tennis legend against a virtual version of his younger self, was the third-most-awarded campaign of the year, while the Dreamcaster project, which saw Michelob develop innovative technology that makes it possible for the blind and visually impaired to fully enjoy and experience basketball, was the 17th-most-awarded campaign of the year.

Oswaldo Sa at VML New York makes it four New Yorkers at the top of the table, his fourth-place finish being the result of having three campaigns in the top 200 list, including Oreocodes, which was the 12th-most-awarded campaign in the world.

The World Creative Rankings are compiled by exhaustively analyzing the performance of thousands of pieces of creative work across 22 major industry awards programs, including The Drum Awards. (The Drum Awards for Marketing are open for entry, with a deadline of Wednesday, March 6.)

That data is then used to determine the people rankings – the CCOs, ECDs, creative directors, art directors and copywriters responsible for the most creatively awarded work in 2023. Their companies are then ranked, with these rankings including the best agencies, networks and holding companies, which are then split by country and region. The advertisers that fund the world’s most awarded work are also ranked, while the sectors that offer the richest return in creative gongs, whether that be Food & Drink, Automotive, Retail or Charity, are also evaluated.
