The owl was spotted at the movie’s screening in Los Angeles last week.

Those lucky enough to score an invite to the Barbie movie premiere in LA last week were surprised to see a larger-than-life brand mascot in attendance.

Duo, the green Duolingo owl, rocked up to the pink carpet and mingled with the film’s stars Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie.

It’s not the first time the huge owl has inserted itself into this pop culture moment. Social media users have noticed that the language learning app has edited and inserted Duo into scenes from the Greta Gerwig movie.

Now, the brand has created a 30-second cinema ad that will be shown in theaters around the US ahead of Barbie screenings.

The spot will air in 1,600+ locations across more than 2,000 screens starting July 21 and run for the next three weeks.

While there are over 100 official brand partnerships for Barbie, Duolingo is not one of them and hasn’t had to spend any budget with Mattel or Warner Brothers to join this moment in pop culture.
