News Group Newspapers's David Robinson departs

During his nine year tenure at The Sun publisher News UK, spanning betting, gaming, marketing and sales roles, Robinson has made the decision to move on.

The news comes as it emerged that the publisher aims to make up to 600 roles redundant within its UK editorial department.

“With The Sun firmly established as the number one UK newsbrand, Sun Savers membership topping one million and both Sun Bingo and Dream Team growing commercially, it feels right to take on a new challenge," said Robinson.

He was most recently invovled with diversifying the group's business model beyond that of a traditional newspaper.

During his tenure, Robinson launched the Sun Savers loyalty programme, and developed the Dream Team fantasy football offering, as well as building out new revenue streams around brand extensions including Sun Bingo and the Sun Racing app.

News UK chief operating officer David Dinsmore added: “David has been a brilliant asset and his tremendous wit and creative mind have brought a lot of joy and success to The Sun brand and teams. I would like to thank him for his significant contribution to the business, both managing the NGN business and working closely with editorial.”

He joined the company in 2013 as managing director of The Sun.
