The Football Association (FA) and McDonald's have launched an app that aims to encourage five- to eight-year-olds to participate in football.

'The FA SuperKicks' app is free of charge and targets parents and coaches of children of any ability.

From football challenges like 'defend your gate,' 'cross the sea' and 'scoring zone,' the app is packed with over 100 educational games.

The challenges have been created by FA coaches and aim to encourage continual development in a fun environment.

McDonald's unveiled the app at its participation-based 'Fun Football' programme.

Commenting on the app launch, the head of development at the FA, Steve Day, said: "Based upon The England DNA foundation phase, The FA SuperKicks app has been designed to help children have fun, develop their active lives and a love of football but also stimulate the learning of skills and abilities, which will be useful in all areas of their life.

"We hope this proves a valuable tool for parents and coaches and helps inspire a lifelong relationship with the game.”

Adding to this, McDonald's chief executive UK and Ireland, Paul Pomroy said: "We are delighted to launch the FA SuperKicks App and give children and families the chance to enjoy the beautiful game at home, in the garden or in the park.

"I know how important it is to encourage a lifelong love of sport and an active lifestyle which is why through our Fun Football programme we want to provide over five million hours of football for children by 2022. I look forward to trying the skills and drills from the app with my children!”
