Stocked items and services include everything from solar lamps and emergency blankets to legal aid and sleeping bags, with every purchase funding an equivalent item for a refugee on behalf of aid charity Help Refugees.
Rather than offer aisles of stacked products, the initiative seeks to mimic the journey of a refugee by splitting each store into three sections themed on ‘survival’, ‘shelter’ and ‘future’, ensuring that shoppers are given the chance to learn about refugees as well as offer practical support.
Josie Naughton, who is chief executive officer of Help Refugees, commented: “At a time when the world faces many challenges; when rhetoric of hate and division has found itself centre stage; we believe sharing this simple message has never been more vital.
“As displaced people attempt to survive another freezing winter in tents and makeshift shelters, as many families prepare to spend their first Christmas torn apart, we’ll be inviting people to Choose Love and support refugees and homeless populations across the globe.”
The store concept and design was devised by creative collective Glimpse and will open on 23 November.
The store concept follows the use of refugee artist's illustrations to inspire others via an out-of-home campaign.
