She joined the company in 2011 as chief executive and was promptly promoted to chairman in 2017. Buchanan is credited with aiding recent business wins like Morrisons, International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Airbus, and also helped integrate Poke into the wider network.

Guy Wieynk, Group chief executive of Publicis Worldwide UK, will stay on top of Publicis UK's portfolio of agencies. The agency's management team includes Nick Farnhill, chief executive; Dave Monk, executive creative director; Trent Patterson, managing director; Katie Edwards, head of account management; Dom Boyd, chief strategy officer; and Kari Freeburn, head of planning.

Wieynk said: “Over the past seven years, Karen’s leadership has been central to the culture of the business and its transformation to create a stronger, broader and more seamless offering to clients. We will miss her energy and team spirit and wish her all the best in her future endeavours.”

Buchanan added: "I am very proud of what Publicis London has achieved in delivering world-class creativity and connected experiences for our clients. Seven years on the agency is in great shape, future fit and I wish them every success, but I’m now keen for a new challenge."

She leaves the agency at the end of May.
