Under Armour could succeed Nike as Man City's kit supplier

The Daily Mail’s Charles Sale writes that the Under Armour is in “pole position” to take over when the club’s current kit deal with fellow US sportswear firm Nike expires at the end of next season.

No deal has been agreed yet, but Under Armour is said to want to add a leading English football club to its ranks because it is being replaced by Nike at Tottenham Hotspur.

Under Armour had also been hoping to become the kit manufacturer for Real Madrid, but pulled out of a deal earlier this year after balked at the Spanish giants’ £130m-a-year demands, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Real were said to have been unhappy with the £34m a year on offer given that Manchester United’s 10 year deal with Adidas is worth £75m a year a year and FC Barcelona’s deal with Nike will see them generate £140m a season from 2018 onwards.

As The Drum reported in detail last week, major football clubs are hoping to extract more value from their sponsorship deals by being more sophisticated in how they measure the value of their enormous social media engagement.
