Snapchat is looking to inject a fresh lease of life into its Discover platform with the recruitment of former Apple News media chief Donna Ogier as global publishing manager.

In post since February, Ogier will report directly to ex-New York Post president David Brinker, another recent appointee responsible for business development and content.

Snap Inc hasn’t provided public content on what Ogier’s precise role will be but it is assumed that she will carry out a similar range of functions to her time at Apple, namely acting as a bridge to publishing partners.

First launched in 2015 Discover has been steadily expanding its suite of publishing partners ever since, who generated a combined $58m between them in 2016.

In a further shake-up however Snapchat is asking publishers to produce short TV-style episodic video content generated exclusively for the app which it can then license, retaining any revenue accrued for itself.

The publishing push dovetails with a recent IPO valuing the business at around $25bn.
