We Fight Any Claim enlists John Cleese for the first marketing campaign

As part of WFAC’s mission to help those who have been mis-sold PPI, The Fawlty Towers comedian stars in the ad with a pair of stockings on his head, hinting at the fact PPI could be a form of robbery by banks with before explaining he simply “likes to wear women’s lingerie”.

The campaign, created collaboratively by Certain and Beginning Middle End, was made with the hope of changing the attitudes towards PPI. Managing director of WFAC, Richard Thomas, explained that campaign was designed to change perceptions and that the company felt Cleese was the “perfect man to front the campaign”.

Certain managing director, Phil Dean, said: “The brief gave us the opportunity to work alongside BME not just to help rebrand a business but to re-position an entire industry.

“Our job was to take a simple message and deliver a creative approach that supports the campaign strategy of changing the attitude to PPI and to position WFAC as a trusted brand. BME’s decision to use John Cleese for this campaign gave us a great opportunity to work with his creative genius across the media mix for this campaign.”

This is not the first time Cleese has fronted an ad having previously returned to his Basil Fawlty character in a Specsavers campaign.
