But how can marketers stay on top of these changes and still produce high quality content? As The Drum's Social Buzz Awards open for entry we'll be asking some of the best and brightest minds in the industry that very question.

Judges from the 2016 Social Buzz panel, which includes the likes of Sony's Hollie Bennet, global digital partner at Carat Jerry Daykin and Twitter's managing director Dara Nsir, will contribute to The Drum's new Social Buzz 101 feature series to dish out tips and discuss what the future holds for the fast-paced world of social media marketing.

Now in its sixth year, the Social Buzz Awards has added several new categories to reflect the changes in the social arena over the past 12 months, including Best Use of Snapchat, Best Use of Live Video and Best Social Stunt.

Commenting on the changes, Carat's Daykin said: "The 'next big thing' is always closer than you think, technologies like VR are really still years ahead. Truly tapping into the growing scale of Snapchat or even rethinking Twitter as a video platform with scale to logged out as well as active users is a shift marketers can be making immediately."

He also offered up advice for entrants looking to impress the panel this year: "For me it's much less about forcing new innovations or coming up with clever hacks, but really driving powerful creative.

"Although driving big reach is critical there are opportunities for customised targeting and creative within that, and to use insights to really shape that approach," he added.

Social Buzz 101 will start from Thursday 7 June, in the meantime check out our Social Buzz Chat which features interviews with social media gurus from brands and agencies.

The Drum's Social Buzz Awards, which are sponsored by BuzZoole and Tint, are open for entry until Friday 5 August, visit the website to find out more.
