Justin Bieber has lost his Spotify crown after hip hop star Drake was officially confirmed as the most-streamed artist of all time on the music streaming platform.

Drake's global streaming dominance comes off the back of the huge success of his latest album 'Views' which reached the number one spot on Spotify upon its release. The album has been streamed 245 million times in the US alone after arriving on Spotify just last week.

The success of the album has helped the hip hop artist reach 3.2 billion global streams on the platform, eclipsing Bieber who boasts 3.17 billion.

The first single off the album 'One Dance' also reached number one on the singles chart however it has since been toppled by Justin Timberlake's 'Can't stop the Feeling'.

Drake's surpassing of Bieber is impressive given the fact that Views was an Apple Music exclusive during its first two weeks of release and only a few tracks available on Spotify.

The huge number of listeners illustrates Spotify's success and has prompted the music streaming platform to expand its offerings with a major push from audio to video with the company commissioning 12 new original series.
