Instagram has taken steps to showcase the best videos hosted on the platform to its users, without cluttering up their main feed, by syphoning off such content into a suite of new channels hosted on a revamped Explore page.

From here members will be presented with personally recommended content, in addition to curated channels, designed to throw a spotlight on specific sectors such as specific content creators.

This follows a backlash against Instagram’s decision to switch from a chronological feed to one generated on Instagram’s whim, prompting it to silo the changes on the Explore page without upsetting the existing order.

Its presentational style sees individual channels embedded within a collage of photos which then auto-play in succession without repeating and forms the latest salvo in Instagram’s bid to capitalise on an exponential increase in mobile video viewing.

For now the update is limited to the US-based iOS and Android users only.
