Salesforce has completed the purchase of AI start-up Metamind for an undisclosed sum as it seeks to automate and personalise its cloud computing operations.

Founded in July 2014 Metamind built a reputation for AI development, specialising in the prediction of outcomes for language, vision and database tasks. This includes not only responding to queries about a given text but also understanding its sentiment.

Metamind CEO Richard Socher said: “With MetaMind and Salesforce coming together, we'll be able to offer customers real AI solutions with breakthrough capabilities that further automate and personalize customer support, marketing automation, and many other business processes. We'll extend Salesforce's data science capabilities by embedding deep learning within the Salesforce platform.”

Metamind will continue to develop its AI software following the deal, focussing on natural language and image database processing.
