Amazon snaps up Woody Allen’s latest film for Prime viewers
Amazon has secured the North American broadcast rights to Woody Allen’s latest cinematic foray, giving Prime subscribers exclusive access to the film following its theatrical release this summer.
The as yet untitled rom-com stars Steve Carrell, Jeannie Berlin and Blake Lively and is believed to have been secured for an eight-figure sum to prise him away from Sony Pictures Classic, according to reports.
Allen and Amazon have enjoyed a close relationship with the idiosyncratic New York director set to premiere his first TV show via Amazon Prime Video as the retail giant seeks to bolster its strategy of focussing on lower budget releases with a large fan following.
This has seen it target releases from Spike Lee such as Chi-Raq as well as an upcoming title from indie director Jim Jarmusch.
