Facebook is running a trial within its mobile app of new topic-based newsfeeds, such as lifestyle, travel or headlines.

As part of the trial, the social network will still have a core newsfeed but people have options to filter posts from friends and pages much more specifically via the topics.

A spokesperson for Facebook, said: “People have told us they'd like new options to see and have conversations about more stories on Facebook around specific topics they're interested in. So we are testing feeds for people to view different stories from people and Pages based on topic areas.”

Facebook has also announced that it is enhancing its shopping functionality for users by creating a personalised list of shoppable items being sold on Facebook pages, and a search tool. It has also been reported that users may be able to buy using a button within the app.

According to an alert from Seeking Alpha, the test has been running from October but was buried within the app until recently. Those who are part of the test are now seeing a Facebook Marketplace icon on the app.
