BuzzFeed dedicates Snapchat Discover channel to documenting Muslim life
Social news and entertainment channel BuzzFeed has dedicated its Snapchat Discover channel to illustrating Islamic life for a day by publishing a lighthearted mix of listicles, video news, celebrity gossip and animations dedicated to the religion.
The all-Muslim special ran for 24 hours and featured custom content such as a profile of a Muslim fashion blogger, a video demonstrating how to wear the hijab, a collection of Twitter posts carrying the hashtag ‘GrowingUpMuslim and a graphic titled ‘8 Emojis All Muslims Need’.
Amidst the fun and games there was also room for a more serious take on modern life with a listicle named ’13 Ways to Take Care of Yourself in the Face of Islamophobia’.
The all-Muslim move was designed to engage with the websites growing Muslim audience at a time where the religion has been thrust into the spotlight by US presidential candidate Donald Trump’s call to ban all Muslim’s from entering the country.
Snapchat Discover has grown to become one of BuzzFeed’s largest channels since it launched in January last year, generating 60m monthly visitors.
