Clarkson still has a lot on his plate with Top Gear Argentina court case
Jeremy Clarkson is facing a lengthy stint behind bars in Argentina after a local judge re-opened a case relating to the ill-fated broadcaster’s now infamous foray to the South American state.
The move will see prosecutors probe whether a decision to drive across the country in a vehicle bearing the number plate H982 FKL constituted a crime in a nation still sore about losing a battle with Britain to wrest control of the island in 1981.
Upon sight of the plate irate Argentinians chased Clarkson and co-hosts James May and Richard Hammond out of the country, pelting rocks at the team as they fled.
Officials will now determine whether the license plate’s usage was a genuine coincidence or whether the production team are guilty of ‘falsifying, altering or suppressing the number of a legally registered object’.
An earlier investigation had cleared the team of any wrongdoing but an appeals court will now will now takeover under pressure from Falkland’s veterans.
The news isn’t likely to ruffle the former Top Gear trio too much however as they continue filming their new, as yet unnamed, show for Amazon Prime.
